Baby Ava | Newborn Lifestyle Session

It was such a privilege to photograph the family of a sweet photographer & friend of mine after the arrival of their newest addition! Megan and her husband Justin are some of the most down-to-earth genuinely kind folks I know, and they also happen to be AMAZING photographers! Please take a peek at their work here!!

This session was so much fun and a bit different than I typically do for newborns. We focused primarily on the family and the results were beautiful. I truly loved getting to not only capture the newness of their baby girl, but also the connections between the whole family. Its something I hope to do more of with my future newborn sessions! Recent Happenings...

It's been just over three months since we welcomed our sweet girls into the family! The joys and challenges of parenthood have most certainly been multiplied as we have been learning to navigate our new roles and care for Cora and Avery. It has been so rewarding, challenging, peaceful, and crazy all at the same time.

The girls each have such unique personalities and traits already and it is so fun to watch them learn and grow each day. I always knew this time would go by fast--photographing other's babies through the first year gave me a pretty good taste of this-- but it has taken on a whole new meaning now that I am living it! Here are some of the highlights of our first 3 months together:

Stella is One! {Huntersville Child Photographer}

I can't believe how quickly one year goes by! I have had the privilege of working with this adorable little munchkin and her momma over the last year, and it has been a blast! I love this session because I think we caught such a wide spectrum of Stella's moods. :)

On another note, I'm so grateful to my clients who have allowed me to test out this set-up in my home this year with no fancy bells or whistles-- just a pushed aside kitchen table, some good music and pretty window light! Though shooting outdoors is my absolute favorite, I would LOVE to have a space in my home set aside just for baby and newborn sessions. Ahhhh…..one day. :)

Little Olivia {Cornelius Newborn Photographer}

This baby girl was so much fun to photograph! We held her session at the Fire Station where her proud Dad works…let me just say I would really be ok with setting up a future studio in this fire station because the light is just GORGEOUS! Olivia's parents were so smitten over her--just look through these photos from our time together and you will see why! :)

We Have Some Big News….

Things are about to get really fun around the McKenzie home…! I am excited to announce that we are expecting twin girls this coming May! Matt and I got to find out their gender just before Christmas and surprise each other by revealing one twin at a time to each other. We have been so blessed to walk through a bit of a bumpy road as we desired to grow our family. Yes, it was definitely tough, but we believe God is ALWAYS good and has perfect timing and purposes in all that He does. I am humbled that I get to carry these 2 little girls and be their momma!

Because twins tend to come a bit earlier than normal (average is 35 weeks...for us that is the first week of April) I am not going to be booking any sessions starting at the end of February. We have lots to prepare for and I would hate to book a session and then have them surprise us with an early arrival! I am not yet sure as to when I will return to shooting full-time, but will keep my past clients updated when I have any new information. We are so thankful and excited for what is in store! I know it will be crazy but SO completely worth it. The biggest challenge for me will be figuring out how to hold a baby and a camera at the same time ;-).

Thank you to my amazing clients for a wonderful year, and have a very merry Christmas!

Hudson is One! {Huntersville Family Photographer}

It was with mixed emotions I went through this session with my very first 'Baby Plan' graduate, Hudson! I really still can't believe how fast babies' first year goes by. It has been so much fun watching him grow and working with his sweet mom and dad this past year. He really wanted to go out with a bang and completely turned on the charm for this last session. This fall has gotten off to a busy start to say the least, and unfortunately I have neglected updating this blog with all the latest sessions of my wonderful clients. Jaxson | Huntersville Newborn Photographer

So thrilled to share this sweet session of this little guy and his proud new parents! He was such a content sleeper, and I just LOVE the shots we got of him with mom and dad. Working on photos like those...I could do it all day!!

We also got to slip him into a sentimental prop for a few shots. His dad made the wooden tray you see him resting in below for his mom before they were even married. They said they never thought that just a few years later, their sweet new baby would be sleeping in it! It is so fun when we get to include personal items of significance into these sessions. So grateful I get to do this as my job. :)

The Grey Family {Huntersville Family Photographer}

Here's a few of my favorite shots from a recent session with some friends of ours and their sweet boys! We had perfect weather for our morning in Davidson and the boys were troopers.

On a side note, it cracks me up to see all the many mood swings of a one and a three year old in any given hour. I understand this is probably not a feeling experienced by the parents dealing with the mood swings, but from behind the lens, I just can't help but enjoy capturing the beauty in the mess. I had the opportunity to do this session with them while we visited our old stomping grounds in Fayetteville, Arkansas for my sister's graduation. I wish we lived closer to family but it was SUCH a joy to get to do this for them! I'm doing a little unconventional share here and posting all the images in B&W...I just love how they allow you to really focus on the emotion & connections in the images!

I am so excited to share this session! It is one of my favorites as of late, and I have FINALLY figured out how to get these blog photos look their very best! Small victory over the computer for me. :)

'Beaming light' was what this mom-to-be was envisioning for her session (a woman after my own heart...!) and light is definitely what we got! New Packaging!

All the little pieces have come together, and its finally done! This little package will be headed your way upon ordering any digital images from your session. It doesn't hurt that everything (but the yarn and disc) is made from recycled products! I know this isn't completely photography-related, but the craft and DIY-lover in me couldn't help but get excited over this being finished. ;)

Introducing...The blog!

Hello and welcome to my new blog! I am not particularly fond of writing (and we'll just say its not one of my strong points either) so expect few words and LOTS of pictures. :) This will serve as a way to give my lovely clients sneek peeks of their sessions, as well as some occasional glimpses into life at the McKenzie home.

This first post highlights some of my favorite images from my first newborn session with TWINS! It went wonderfully and the girls were truly beautiful. Enjoy ;)
